The Planet Crafter Animals Guide | How to Create Mammals (2024)

Our The Planet Crafter Animals Guide will tell you how to get Genetic Material to make large Animals and how you can customize their appearance!

It takes a long time to Terraform the world in The Planet Crafter, but the end results are worth it; get enough Biomass and you'll be able to start bringing complex Animals to life. This guide will tell you everything you need to know about using Genetic Material to create new creatures!

How to UnlockThe Planet CrafterAnimals | How to Unlock Mammals

If you want to unlockThe Planet CrafterAnimals, you're going to need to get 4 specific pieces of equipment: the Genetic Synthesizer, the Genetic Extractor, the Animal Shelter, and the Animal Feeder.

Here's how you unlock those items:

  • Genetic Synthesizer: Reach 70.00 kt of Biomass
  • Genetic Extractor: Reach 800.00 t of Insects
  • Animal Shelter: Reach 1.25 TTi of Terraformation
  • Animal Feeder: Reach 1.25 TTi of Terraformation

Each of these items is necessary for acquiring Genetic Traits and using them to make Mammals. We'll address these subjects in subsequent sections of this guide — keep reading to learn more!

How to Get Genetic Traits

There are four ways to get Genetic Traits for Animals inThe Planet Crafter:

  1. Creating Genetic Traits by processing specific items in the Genetic Extractor
  2. Petting living Mammals
  3. Finding Genetic Traits as loot in a Portal mini-biome
  4. Recycling an existing Creature DNA in the Recycling Machine; this will give you back all of the Genetic Traits used to make it.

How to Use the Genetic Extractor

You can use the Genetic Extractor by building it, placing it in your base, and ensuring that it has enough power. Once it does, you can put specific items into it and convert them to specific Genetic Traits.

Hovering over any of the icons in the Genetic Extractor will give you vague details about what you can get from each item you put in. For more specific details, you can take a look at our list of Genetic Traits at the end of the guide.

How to Use the Genetic Synthesizer

The Genetic Synthesizer is where you can assemble 3–8 Genetic Traits to create a piece of Creature DNA. Some of these traits are mandatory and some are optional.

Here are the slots you'll need to fill for the Genetic Synthesizer:

  1. Species: As you might expect, the Species slot determines the species of the Animal you're creating. This slot is mandatory.
  2. Color A: This determines the first of two colors that will make up the Animal's skin. This slot is mandatory.
  3. Color B: This determines the secondof two colors that will make up the Animal's skin. This slot is mandatory.
  4. Skin Pattern Color: This determines the color of an Animal's Skin Pattern. This slot is optional.
  5. Skin Pattern: This determines the Animal's skin pattern, such as stripes on its body. This slot is optional.
  6. Variant: This activates a "variant" model of the Species with slightly different physical characteristics. This slot is optional.
  7. Bioluminescence: This determines the level of bioluminescence on a creature. This slot is optional.
  8. Size: This defines the maximum size of an animal. This slot is optional.

At the bare minimum, you will need a Genetic Trait Species, Genetic Trait Color A, and Genetic Trait Color B to make an animal. All other Genetic Traits are totally optional. There is no apparent difference in the benefits you gain from Animals that have the optional Genetic Traits; it appears to be a purely cosmetic choice.

How to Spawn Animals, and How to Feed and Shelter Animals

Once you've created a Creature DNA, you'll need to build an Animal Shelter out in the world. You can then place the Creature DNA inside of the Animal Shelter and it will spawn into the world.

You'll also need to feed your Animals. Naturally, you can do this with the Animal Feeder; this requires you to place Food inside of it. It's easiest to automate the refilling process by using Drones, but this is not strictly necessary.

Animals will automatically eat food as they need it. From there, it's up to you to pet them and get more Genetic Traits or simply leave them be and allow them to passively contribute to your Terraformation Index.
